PRESENTS
Peso del Peligro by Paulina Freifeld
February 4th - February 28th
Curated by Danielle Juliao & Martin Isaza
The exhibition Peso del Peligro by Mexican artist Paulina Freifeld explores the intersection of personal history, ecological destruction, and cultural memory, using a mix of archival imagery, light boxes, and paintings to examine themes of survival, displacement, and the commodification of nature in the face of environmental crisis.
Freifeld’s work takes inspiration from the Familia G series of Mexican banknotes introduced in 2018, which depict the country’s six key ecosystems. The same year, construction began on the controversial Tren Maya, a development project criticized for its ecological impact on the regions these bills symbolize. Through her paintings and light boxes, Freifeld juxtaposes these dual narratives of celebration and destruction, highlighting the tension between glorified representations of nature and the realities of environmental exploitation.
Peso del Peligro will remain on view until February 28th, 2025.
